ABOUT
I have always loved drawing and painting and while the term ‘self-taught’ is used loosely, I have over the years benefited from many classes and courses, learning from some wonderful teachers along the way. Drawing skills are always something to be worked on and I like to attend as many life drawing classes as possible.
My style is constantly changing and evolving. Each new piece, whether it is a landscape, still life or life drawing/collage requires fresh perspective, some added tension. I do enjoy painting many different subjects but find the unique landscape around the Perth Hills particularly appealing. Acrylic is my preferred medium but also like to mix it up with charcoal, pastel, and collage.
Overall, the challenge is always to keep learning and trying new things while at the same time mastering important painting fundamentals. For me, one of the most important aspects at the core of painting is to explore the ways in which paint can be used to portray a sense of place and time, with a particular emphasis on light/shadow and bold use of colour.
